Conductivity measurement tells you how well a solution conducts electricity, which is directly related to the concentration of dissolved salts, minerals, and ions. Hanna’s EC, TDS, and salinity benchtop meters use four-ring platinum conductivity probes that resist polarization and provide stable readings across a wide measurement range.

Every benchtop meter requires regular calibration to maintain accuracy. Hanna manufactures a full line of calibration solutions including pH buffers (4.01, 7.01, 10.01) and conductivity standards (84 µS/cm, 1413 µS/cm, 12.88 mS/cm). All solutions are NIST-traceable and come with a Certificate of Analysis.
Replacement electrodes and probes are also available for every Hanna benchtop meter. For conductivity measurement, the HI763100 digital four-ring platinum probe is the standard electrode used with edge series meters.

A pH meter measures the hydrogen ion concentration in a solution to determine how acidic or alkaline it is. A conductivity meter measures the ability of a solution to conduct an electrical current, which reflects the total dissolved ion content. Many Hanna benchtop meters can measure both parameters when paired with the appropriate electrodes.
For pH, calibrate at least once daily before use, or more frequently if measuring across a wide pH range or working with demanding samples. For conductivity, calibrate weekly or whenever you change the probe. Models with CAL Check will alert you if calibration quality has drifted.
Yes. The edge series is modular by design. If you own an edge HI2020 (pH meter), you can purchase the HI763100 conductivity probe separately and plug it in. The meter will automatically recognize the probe and switch to conductivity mode.
CAL Check is a Hanna-exclusive feature that evaluates the health of your pH electrode during calibration. It checks electrode slope and offset values and alerts you to issues such as contaminated buffers, dirty electrodes, or sensors that have degraded over time. This helps prevent inaccurate readings before they happen.
Hanna pH meters with standard BNC connectors will accept most third-party pH electrodes. However, the edge series uses proprietary 3.5 mm digital electrodes with built-in microchips. These digital probes store calibration data and are designed specifically for edge meters.
