Hanna tester thermometers are handheld digital instruments built for fast, accurate temperature readings in food production, laboratories, pool maintenance and general quality control. Each model features a stainless steel probe, a clear LCD display and Hanna’s proprietary CAL Check function, which runs a self-diagnostic at startup to confirm the internal electronics are working within specification.
Unlike glass thermometers, these digital testers eliminate breakage risk and condensation issues while delivering readings accurate to ±0.4°C or better under 90°C. Results are displayed in both °C and °F, making them suitable for international operations and multi-standard environments.
Choosing the right model depends on your application, probe style preference and required temperature range. Use the comparison table below to find the best fit.
Model | Probe Style | Range | Accuracy | Best For |
Direct penetration (stick) | -50.0 to 150.0°C | ±0.3°C | Quick spot checks in food, liquids
Remote probe with 1m cable | -50.0 to 150.0°C | ±0.2°C | Semi-solids, frozen goods, lab samples
Weighted probe with 3m cable | -50.0 to 150.0°C | ±0.3°C | Swimming pools, hot tubs, water tanks
Checktemp 4 (Folding) | Folding penetration probe | -50.0 to 270.0°C | ±0.4°C (up to 90°C) / ±1°C (>90°C) | Foodservice, catering, HACCP checks |
Stick (direct penetration): The probe is built directly into the meter body. This design is the most compact and works well for routine temperature checks in liquids and soft foods. The Checktemp HI98501 is the most popular stick-style model in the range.
Remote cable probe: A flexible silicone cable separates the probe from the display unit, allowing you to measure temperature at a distance or in hard-to-reach locations. The Checktemp 1 HI98509 uses a 1-metre cable and a sharp-tip probe that penetrates fruits, vegetables, cheese and frozen goods with ease.
Folding probe: The probe folds into the meter body when not in use, protecting the tip during transport. Folding models are a favourite among chefs and food safety inspectors who carry a thermometer throughout their shift.
Weighted probe: Designed to sink to a specific depth in water, the weighted probe on the Pool Line HI985394 is ideal for measuring temperature at different levels in pools, spas and storage tanks.
CAL Check is a feature unique to Hanna thermometers. When you turn on the meter, it automatically runs an internal calibration test against a known reference point. If the reading falls within ±0.3°C of the 0.0°C reference, the display shows “0” to confirm accuracy. If something is off, it shows “Err” so you know the meter needs attention before you take a measurement.
This built-in verification removes the guesswork from daily temperature monitoring and supports traceability to NIST standards, which is especially important in regulated industries.
Food safety and HACCP: Digital thermometers are a required tool for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point programmes. Whether you are checking incoming meat deliveries, monitoring cooking temperatures or verifying cold storage, a tester thermometer with CAL Check provides documented proof of compliance.
Laboratory work: Thermistor-based testers offer the fast response time and high resolution needed for sample preparation, incubation monitoring and reagent temperature verification.
Pool and spa maintenance: Accurate water temperature readings help maintain comfortable conditions and support proper chemical balance. The Pool Line model’s 3-metre cable lets you measure at various depths without getting wet.
Industrial quality control: From incoming goods inspection to final product release, handheld digital thermometers provide a fast, reliable way to verify process temperatures on the production floor.
